Sea Island Cotton Polo Superleggera® | The Elegant Way To Stay Cool
A Warm Beginning …
Your Sea Island cotton polo shirt starts life as extra-long fibre cotton found growing only in the unique climate of the Caribbean: Barbados and Jamaica. Picked by hand and processed in a traditional manner, the fibres (exceptionally fine but especially robust and representing just 0.0001% of world annual cotton production) are spun into yarn by Spoerry 1866 Fine Textiles in Switzerland. From there, the precious yarn travels to Italy where it is knitted and dyed to our specifications in one of 2,625 Pantone® colour options. As with all Niccolò P. fabrics, the Sea Island is given a mercerised finish to add lustre while guaranteeing colour longevity.
…. A Cool Finish
The finished Sea Island fabric is hand cut to our proprietary fit pattern by a specialist factory in Vila Frescainha on Portugal's west coast. The world's finest mother-of-pearl buttons - sourced from sustainable farms run by indigenous families in Australia - are added using a fleur-de-lis stitch. The buttons are thick, beautiful, and durable, and dyed to precisely match the shirt where they should. Flat-felled seam stitching is used (5x longer to sew than regular seams and the hallmark of well-made shirts) giving a signature 'structured' style to the shoulders and sides as well as offering you exceptional wearing comfort.
Our Sea Island polo shirts are available in The Resort piqué knit, an open knit perfect for staying cool in warmer weather, and in Polo Superleggera®, our flagship jersey knit which is lightweight (but never transparent) and ideal for hot days by the pool or wherever you might find them.
